GIVE ME MONEY (No, Really! Please!!)
That's right folks, it's that time of year again when I accost my even REMOTELY friendly, first-name basis cohorts in a desperate attempt to raise funds just so I can slog my way through this year's annual Beach to Beacon race happening in 22 days, 18 hours and 44 minutes from now on Saturday, August 4th, to be precise! But why, you ask, WHY would any normal human being attempt to run in the sweltering temps of August on his or her day off? I don't know, perhaps it's the inner masochist just dying to get out there and experience the joys of heat stroke, or perhaps it's my burning desire to wake up at an unreasonable hour just to rub elbows (literally) with thousands of other sweaty people in a massive throng of hopefuls who, let's face it, have probably been running for years and are probably insanely faster than I am and/or are actually from Kenya. That being said, I need some money!!! $300 bucks to be exact! Every year, Maine Medical Center and MaineHealth raise funds to support the BBCH Let's Go! program, which basically helps kids make healthy choices from a young age, something super important in today's modern world of Youtube and Cheetos.
If there is any way you can find it in your heart to donate $5 to my fundraising goals by hitting the giant, orange DONATE NOW button to the right, I would GREATLY appreciate it (ANY amount is appreciated)!!! Come on, do it for the kids! Do it for the race! And do it knowing I'm going to be out there testing my physical and mental limits, breathing hard and possibly cursing a little (but only inside my head, in order to conserve oxygen), doing my best to imitate Tom Cruise-style running with the encouraging knowledge that you helped support my being there!
You are the best. Really. You are. So go back to working in peace knowing you saved some kid from a terrible, hypothetical existence of superfluous juice boxes and stretchy pants. Really, though, this program helps educate kids families so that they can make healthy choices that lead to a much healthier and therefore higher quality of life! Plus, I will run a faster mile just to make you proud!
If you can, come out the morning of August 4th and cheer us on-- this is a truly wonderful community experience that you don't need to run to enjoy! See you there!
Thanks so much,
P.S. Official description of Let's Go! program, as well as the link to race information, are below in case you're curious!
On Saturday, August 4, 2018, I will be running on the Let’s Go! B2B Running Team to support Let’s Go!, a program of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Last year, Let’s Go! reported that fruit and vegetable consumption is higher among students at Let’s Go! schools and that sugary drinks and screen time is down at most Let’s Go! sites. Moreover, recent Maine state data suggests a general upward trend in three of the four 5-2-1-0 behaviors: fruit and veggie consumption and screen time habits are moving in the right direction and students are consuming fewer sugary drinks. That’s what we call progress!
Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation on my behalf! 100% of funds raised for Let’s Go! stay local, and directly support Let’s Go!, a nationally recognized childhood obesity prevention program.
Thank you for supporting me and this important cause.
