We all walk for a reason, whether it’s to celebrate overcoming childhood cancer, honoring those who continue to fight every day, or remembering those who are no longer with us. Share a message, photo, or video with your #WhyIWalk story on our MCCP Walk Kudoboard.

Event details: On Saturday morning at 9:00am, we'll be airing our Walk kick-off video on the MCCP Facebook page — link to RSVP here! This special video will serve as the official Walk send off, highlighting why this annual event is so meaningful to so many. At the conclusion of the video, we encourage you to "walk wherever you are" — a favorite trail, beach, or around the neighborhood — for your very own MCCP Walk! Be sure to share photos of your walk on the 2021 MCCP Walk event page on Facebook!

For 34 years, communities across Maine have come together on the third Saturday of September to take part in the annual Maine Children’s Cancer Program Walk, powered by Shaw's Supermarket – an event that has come to be known lovingly as a “family reunion” for our MCCP community. As much as we’d love to be gathered at Payson Park this year – reuniting with friends, rallying around Maine’s youngest cancer fighters, and walking side by side with fellow supporters of MCCP – we’ve determined that the best way to continue our tradition of standing in solidarity with our patients and families is to walk wherever you are on Saturday, September 18th, 2021.

In 2020, we held our first virtual MCCP Walk, encouraging our community to get out there and walk their favorite beach, trail, or around the neighborhood. Thanks to our volunteers, sponsors, and dedicated walkers, over $115,000 was raised  despite being virtual  to support the kiddos at MCCP. This year, our goal is to build off 2020’s success, while looking optimistically to 2022 when we can once again hold the event that we all know and love; a heartfelt gathering complete with mascot hugs, encouraging high fives, arts and crafts, mingling with friends and teammates, and cheer tunnels, to name just a few of the special elements of the MCCP Walk that add up to create a meaningful experience for our patients and families.

While we won’t be physically gathered this year, we will be together in spirit to rally around the patients and families receiving care at MCCP. We’ll be encouraging our Team Captains to bring their teams together in a way that’s safe, comfortable, and meaningful for all. This is your Walk  we hope that you’ll make it your own. We’ll be here cheering you on!
